Welcome to Microlumbia
Our mission is to help alleviate global poverty by providing the Columbia Business School (CBS) community the means and opportunities to become lifelong contributors to the field of microfinance.
Microfinance is a financial service that gives very poor people very small loans (microcredit) to help them grow tiny businesses.
For CBS students, we offer education and investment management and consulting opportunities. For microfinance organizations, we offer much-needed financing and technical assistance.

Note: Though Microlumbia incorporated with the State of New York Department of State as a not-for-profit corporation on January 30, 2008, any donations to us are not yet tax deductible. On August 7, 2008 we filed a Form 1023 with the IRS for exemption from Federal income tax. This is standard protocol for new non-profit organizations. When we receive our determination letter from the IRS stating Microlumbia is exempt from Federal income taxes, it will be posted on our website and donors will be able to download the letter and in order to deduct their Microlumbia donations. For further information about this process please go to www.irs.gov/eo.
